Dr Goldsmith qualified as a doctor in 1983 from Charing Cross Hospital Medical School. She spent 5 years in General Hospital Medicine before specialising in Dermatology. Dr Goldsmith's training in Dermatology took seven years as she spent two as a Wellcome research fellow and undertook an MD thesis studying blood flow in the skin and problems that in the cold lead to chilblains and Raynaud's phenomenon. As a senior registrar in St John's Institute of Dermatology she worked in the patch test clinic and developed an interest in contact dermatitis and allergic skin disorders.

Dr Goldsmith has been a consultant Dermatologist since 1996, initially at the Whittington hospital and more recently at the Homerton Hospital and the Royal London Hospital. She is particularly interested in eczema and runs a patch test allergy service at the LCD where she can investigate patients with eczema to see if there is an allergic element to their problems.
